Verse

Matthew 7 1–5 The Message “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults — unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbor’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor.

Thought how to confront

When I was younger, I thought confrontation was a good word. I’d run to any challenge. I’d face any comer. That’s changed since my heart attack. But the good news is, I learned how to speak the truth in love that’s what I’m going to share with you today.

4 Tips on how to confront

  1. When your challenged, it might be ok to ignore. Nehemiah wouldn’t be taken away from his work at rebuilding the wall. (Nehemiah 6:2–3) Is the situation ignorable?
  2. If you can’t avoid the challenge — look for the gold in the person. What does God love about them? It changes you from wanting to defend yourself to wanting to hear God’s thoughts about what’s happening. Remember, a soft answer turns away wrath. (Proverbs 15:1)
  3. If you need to confront someone — When you need to confront realize your not in the right place if your going to enjoy putting someone in their place. Take the time to get in the right place. Figure out if they are willing to listen — drop seeds, set standards, give them the time to come back to you.
  4. In either situation — protect your peace. Remember to forgive and bless.

Can I pray?

Heavenly Father, if we need to talk to someone about something help us to do it in love. Help us to look out for the interest of others. Help us to speak in love. Give us boldness to speak the truth.
